Update of Medication-overuse Headache and Medication-overuse
Cho Soo-Jin

Abstract
Medication overuse headache is a secondary headache disorder attributed to the frequent and regular use of medications for headache in patients with primary headache disorders. The prevalence of MOH in the general populations is about 1-2%, but the burden of MOH is substantial. The concept of MOH has been changed with time and the separation between MOH and just medication overuse might be meaningful. Recommended treatments of MOH are education, withdrawal of overused medication with optional treatment for withdrawal headache, and preventive medication. Mediation overuse is common in the patients with migraine and several preventive medications might reduce headache days and acute medication consumption without withdrawal of overused medication. Further study about mechanism and clinical manifestation of MOH and medication overuse is warranted for relieving its burden and prevention and treatment of MOH.
